Elderberries
Elderberries were commonly used as food in early America, but have since become less known. It's hard to say why though. The dark, flavorful berries not only have numerous culinary uses, but are historically and scientifically proven to have tremendous health benefits.
Elderberry bushes grow in many states...including Maine. And of course, they are included in this post because they grow wild on a hard to find chunk of land on Larry's property. In fact, that chunk of land is a small island within Larry's 10 acre pond. Below is a short clip of how Larry gets to the island.
And this next clip is from on the island. What a great little adventure to pick a rare and tasty treat.
Elderberries, also known as Sambucus. If you ever get the chance, try them in a recipe of your own.
