Milkweed for Monarchs
Each year, hundreds of thousands of Monarch Butterflies migrate up from Mexico and make their way to northern parts of the United States and Southern Canada. Many thousands of these butterflies not only travel through Maine, but land here and lay their eggs.
Needless to say, the butterflies are hungry when they arrive, and the number one thing they are looking for is a medium-sized flowering plant called Milkweed. Milkweed is not as common as it once was, so people like Larry try to make a point of letting it grow wild in their yards.
This video was shot before the Monarch's arrival, but we will try to capture the sight when the butterflies arrive.
